Coupons.com reset today

Every month Coupons.com resets their coupon count so really limited coupons are available again. They've done so a little early and the new coupons area available today.

I highly recommend printing coupons.com Qs from InboxDollars to earn an additional $0.10 per coupon redeemed.

Samples received today - P&G and Orville Redenbacher

I always request samples when I see them and two have arrived today.

The P&G Brand Sampler includes a 2 count Cascade ActionPacs sample and a Metamucil Pink Lemonade Sample. I also received a $2/1 Metamucil coupon that expires 6/30/10. You can request your sampler on the P&G Brand Sampler website. Another little nugget of joy; Risotto, the Coupon Rat mascot, is currently camped out in the box that the samples came in...

The other sampler was for Orville Redenbacher's Popcorn. The sampler includes a package of microwavable popcorn and a coupon for $1/2 OR's Gourmet Popping Corn 3-packs. The sample comes compliments of Kroger and you can get yours here. They also have Mayo and Prilosec samples if you're interested.

Meijer has the deals, once again

I've been a little busy lately with finding a full time job, but I did notice two excellent deals at Meijer this week.

Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce 18 oz, 0.99
-$1/2 (5/23 SS)
=0.49 ea wyb 2

Ground beef, 1.49/lb, limit 3 packages

There was a tearpad coupon out recently near the A.1. display for $1 off beef wyb A.1. sauce. Hopefully we'll see an A.1. coupon before the sale is over. Even if we don't, this is the lowest price I've seen on ground beef in a while.

Scrubbing Bubbles madness continues, Part 2

Scrubbing Bubbles just release a new printable $5/1 Q for the power sprayer. If you still have the Free $5 Target gift card coupon, this is still a money maker...

There's also a $1/1 Q for the refills on the same web page. Both can be found on the Right@Home website (link goes to coupon print).

Vacation your Sunday newspaper

In keeping with being a complete tightwad; I'm placing my Sunday paper on vacation so I won't be charged for it. There are no inserts scheduled for this Sunday's paper. Don't be alarmed if you look for them an they aren't there.

Glade Sense & Spray Freebie at Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart recently reduced its price on Glade Sense & Spray starter kits to $5.
Using the $4/1 coupon from the 5/9 SS, you'll pay $1 and $.35 in tax for each.

Since these are eligible for the SC Johnson $5/3 rebate, this ends up being a money maker ($4.05 for 3).

The rebate form can be found on the SC Johnson website.

Notes:
The cashier didn't scan one of my $.55/1 coupons in transaction 3.
She also had a massively malfunctioning catalina machine.. all of the lights were blinking and it had about a foot of tae hanging out of it. She didn't seem to mind. I wanted my coupon.

The BOGO coupons in transaction 3 rang up as $10 off, not 8.99 off... win!

I called Catalina Marketing regarding the cats that didn't print in #1 and 3... they're getting back to me tomorrow.

Meijer sales updated - ends 5/26

Now that I've printed a bunch of these I think I am headed to Meijer this morning. I'll let you know how I did this afternoon.

CVS Money Makers, 5/23-29/10

I'e not yet attempted to coupon at CVS, so I'm not exactly sure about this, but There's quite a bit of commotion on weusecoupons.com about CVS this week.

Scenario 1:
4 Gillette Body Wash, $4 ea ($16)

Coupons (in this order):
$3/$15 CVS coupon (source unclear, not not necessary for the MM), -$3
2 BOGO Gillette body wash (5/2 PG), -$8
1 $4/2 Gillette body wash/deodorant (5/2 PG), -$4

The result is $1.00 OOP, and $8 in ECB rewards... Nice!

This could work with the Old Spice BOGOs in the 5/2 PG as well, but would be $5 OOP. I can't find a similar $4/2 coupon for Old Spice.

Scenario 2:
CVS is giving $5 ECBs wyb $15 of Nivea products. With enough Nivea coupons out there to choke a small mule, there has to be a MM...

3 Nivea BW, $5.99 ea (17.97)

Coupons:
$3/$15 CVS coupon (source unclear, not not necessary for the MM), -$3
1 Nivea BOGO (May AllYou magazine)
2 $4/1 Nivea (5/2 SS)

OOP: $0.98 + $5 ECB

You could also tack on another bottle of bodywash if you had another BOGO, and not change your OOP.

That's it for now. Once I start shopping CVS I'm sure I'll bring in better deals and info.

Strangers in the night...

We met in front of the meat case at the Brownsburg Marsh Saturday morning.

You: wearing a salmon top and jeans.
Me: Wearing a green t-shirt and jeans.

I thought you were cute. And I loved the way your eyes lit up when you saw what I had in my pants (I keep my Q organizer in my back pocket while shopping).

I could tell by the way you were grabbing weiners that you had done this before, and you knew EXACTLY what you like. I like to stockpile hot dogs too. I had extra coupons for Bar S Franks, and was about to offer you some. That's when you pulled out your Q organizer. It was exactly like mine, even the colors matched.

My heart skipped a beat.

You pointed out that we had the same organizer. I laughed and mumbled something. I was too nervous to remember what I had said. Perhaps it was all the boxes of wine in the next aisle that made my head swim.

Then, as you strolled away, I began to wonder if you'd seen my Marsh matchup on my blog or WUC. Perhaps it was fate that drew us together there under the cool dim lights of the meat section. Perhaps if I met you again I'd gain the nerve to ask you to Kroger with me... they have eggs on sale. Then I nearly ran into your cart as I passed an aisle you were coming out of.

I looked up and smiled. You smiled. We shared a moment. I lost my nerve to say anything at all to you.

Later, while I was looking for the charcoal, I saw that you'd already checked out and were leaving the store. My charcoal was nowhere to be seen. My heart sank.

You say you are married? That's OK. I'm seeing someone too. She's very open minded about saving money, perhaps the two of you could even become friends. The 3 of us could run interference on a register while we perform multiple transaction. A Ménage à Savings?

Perhaps you were clever enough to match up the coupons to the sale on your own, without my help. Perhaps someone else has a better matchup. I'd still like to shop with you again, my new frugal friend. Until we meet again, save well.

Marsh and Kroger trips this morning

Marsh:
I picked up a few items I wrote about a few days ago.

6 pk Bar S Franks, .79 ea (4.74)

1 20# bag Picnic charcoal, 4.99

Qs
3 $1/2 Bar S meats
1 $0.50/1 Lawry marinade, doubled

OOP: $8.06 incl tax
Saved: 12.77 (62%)

Kroger:
6 Pepsi 2L, 1.25  (7.50)
2 dz Kroger eggs, 0.77 (1.54)

Qs:
None, but Pepsi 2Ls at Kroger are B4G2, so I saved 2.50
Eggs were also on sale...

OOP: 6.89
Saved: 7.56, (53%)

Scrubbing Bubbles madness continues

Over the past month Scrubbing Bubbles has been a consistent and fairly massive money maker. All signs indicate that this is going to continue as SC Johnson released another high value coupon for their products. Not to mention the Mail in Rebate that is still going until the end of the month.

Get a $10/1 Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner starter kit coupon. I've seen these priced around $13.49 at Target and Walmart, so print this hot coupon now before supplies run out. I have a feeling we'll see a price drop or store coupons for these before the expiration date.

5/18/10 trip to Meijer, Avon, IN

1 Transaction, Taking some of my own advice... Check the link for coupon sources.

I was also buying some things for a fondue party I'm going to tonight, so my percentage is a little low...

Party Items:
1 Vegetable oil, 2.49
2 Sweet Baby Ray's Dipping Sauce, 2.99 ea (5.98)
2 Peanut oil, 3.99 ea (7.98)
2 pk Steak (14.49)
Sub: 30.94

Deals:
1 bag Meijer charcoal 18#, 5.29
4 cans Manwich, 0.89 ea (3.56)
2 boxes Wheat Thins, 2.00 ea (4.00)
2 bags Doritos 3.99 ea (in-store BOGO, 3.99 total)
6 bags Freshlike frozen vegetables, 1.00 ea (6.00)
9 jars Musselman's 48 oz applesauce, 3/$5.00 (15.00)
2 Sunkist soda 2L, 1.00 (2.00)
2 Duncan Hines Brownies, 1.67 (3.34)
Sub: 43.18

Coupons:
Meijer Meal Box:
3 $1/3 Musselman's applesauce
3 $1/2 Freshlike vegetables
2 $1/2 Manwich

Manufacturer:
2 $0.55/2 Duncan Hines
2 $1/1 Wheat Thins
2 $1/3 Freshlike
4 $1/2 Musselman's

Tax: $0.51
Total: $57.47
Savings: $37.56 (39.5%)

Notes:
I paid $1 for 6 pounds of frozen vegetables!

I paid $8 for 9 jars of applesauce!

Without the party items my OOP would have been $26.98. My savings would have been the same and my percentage would have been 58.2%

I'm not sure why the register took both Duncan Hines coupons. I mistakenly gave both. I think it has something to do with Meijer registers checking for for 1 coupon/item and then checking for item eligibility. Some people can also take advantage of this loophole by buying two items and using 2 BOGO coupons to get both free. I've not tried this, as it skirts the coupon fraud gray area a little too closely for my taste.

I have a huge food dehydrator. I think most of the applesauce is going in it to make fruit leather (Fruit Roll-ups). Doing so will add about a year to the shelf life of the applesauce, 3 if I freeze them. They can always be turned back into applesauce by simply adding water. Not sure what to do with the jars just yet though.

Response from Walgreen's. That was fast! AND it makes sense.

Manufacturer rules prohibit retailers from using a manufacturer's coupon when it is set up as a buy one, get one free promotion.  Their claim is that the "deal" is already buy 1, get 1 free.  So to honor any other coupon or deal is called double dipping.
This is a situation we used to ignore and considered it good customer service.  But in recent months, we have been reprimanded by the manufacturer's and have been informed that they will no longer accept manufacturer coupons from us if we don't start to follow their rules.  This is why we have to hold firm on their rules and policies.
I hope this makes sense.
Thank you,

Email to Walgreen's customer support

"I went to the Brownsburg, IN store to purchase Old Spice Body Wash. I had a coupon for buy one, get one free. I was told that the coupon would not be honored because "[I'd]... be getting both items for free. The cashier also said that this was company policy.
1. Is this correct? Though I fundamentally disagree with the cashier's statement as I'd pay $4.49 for the body wash and receive a coupon for my next purchase.
2. Can such limitations be placed in the weekly advertisement? The only limitation I see is 1/customer, but this additional information would have saved me a trip to Walgreen's"

I'll let you know what the response is.

Looking through today's SmartSource I was very happy to see that it is very thick this week. There's also a Purina Mega Sale pamphlet with Petsmart coupons in it, so don't just toss it...

Here are the Qs that stand out to me

I see a $.25/1 ANY SunnyD coupon. Kroger has SunnyD on sale for $1, and will double the coupon. $.50 per jug!

$2/1 OFF! Clip on is a decent coupon if combined with the BOGO printable that's out there as well as a sale/store coupon.
Example:
Walgreen's is selling these for $8.99, buy 2 (17.98)
Use the BOGO printable (8.99)
Use the $2/1 coupon from today's SmartSource (6.99)
Use the $2/1 Walgreen's coupon from their May Coupon Book to take another $2 off each item (2.99).
Now you have two Off Clip on starters for $1.50 each!

Customer Service call from Marsh

Two days ago I went to Marsh to use up some coupons that were expiring soon. I had 5 $1/2 coupons for Bush's baked beans, so I bought 10 cans. The next day I saw the Marsh circular advertising those same beans on sale for $1.48 (reg $1.84). I shot off a quick email to Marsh customer service asking if I could receive a refund equal to the difference.

This morning ask I was preparing for a job interview I got a call from someone at my Marsh's customer service desk stating that I could indeed receive the difference if I brought my receipt in. I don't know if this is a company policy for Marsh, but many stores do have a 30 day price guarantee.

Lessons learned:
1. Keep your receipts (good for mail in rebates too)
2. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Free things #2 Freecycle and a mascot

Bargain hunters know the value of free. There are many ways of getting free things, many of them legal. My favorite is FreeCycle. This is a grass roots group dedicated to help keep items with usable life out of landfills. Most counties/regions have a FreeCycle group, you just have to look for it. I know over the past year or so I've picked up a bread machine, fish gravel, a quilt rack, even a 6 foot air hockey table! All given away to prevent those items with usable life from cluttering our landfills. Here's a link to the Hendricks County FreeCycle group.  Everyone else will have to search for their own group. You can do so at the Freecycle homepage.

I highly recommend you join. You never know exactly what  you'll find. Today I found a mascot for this blog!

This is Risotto. He and his big brother Cannoli were offered up on FreeCycle, and I couldn't resist. I know they aren't the most popular animals in history, but I've always had a soft spot for them. Like everything else I've received from FreeCycle, their condition is better than expected (perfect, really) and both of the fuzz butts have adapted quite nicely to their new home.

Free things #1 - Excellent video game

Valve is offering the PC/Mac version of their runaway hit game Portal for free until 5/24/10. I already have it in the Orange Box, but for those of you who haven't played it, now's the perfect opportunity to try it out. Details can be found on Valve's website.

RedPlum insert in the mail today

Don't toss that 'junk' mail! Remember, the RedPlum insert that used to be in the Sunday paper is now direct mailed to everyone in central Indiana. (If you don't want yours, I'll come get it!)

Biggest deal in that insert: $1/1 Reach toothbrush and buy one get one free (BOGO) for Reach toothbrushes. Some stores, like Meijer or a coupon friendly Walgreens, will let you use a coupon for each item you are purchasing, so you get one free and 1 off the other. If we can find a sale on these we can really clean up on toothbrushes!

Scuttlebutt is that the $2/1 Ecotrin will be a money maker at Walgreen's starting Sunday ($2 off an item, then get a catalina for the full value of the item at the end of the transaction).

I'd also watch the $3/1 Gilette deodorant. That will end up being free at Wal-Mart or Target or a money maker at one of the drug stores.

$3/1 Chef Micheal's dog food looks interesting. I've heard it's very popular.

SC Johnson Rebate #2 and 3

I just mailed off for my other 2 SC Johnson $5 rebates. I bought everything in a couple different transactions but basically it when like this.

2 Scrubbing Bubbles auto sprayers, $7.99 (15.98)
3 SB refills, 3.49, (10.47)
1 Windex Multi-purpose, 2.69

sub: 29.14
tax: 2.04
tot: 31.18

Coupons
2 $5/1 SB auto sprayer
2 free $5 Target gift card wyb 1 SB auto sprayer
2 buy 1 SB auto sprayer, get 1 refill free ($3.49 max value)
1 $1/1 SB refill
1 free $5 Target gift card wyb 3 SB products
1 $1/1 Windex Multi-purpose

Total coupon value was $33.98, which means I was paid $2.80 to take those items. And now the manufacturer is paying me another $10 in mail in rebates. It really does pay to find the deals!

BFD at Target

DiGiorno Pizza with Breadsticks is supposed to be at Target for $5.97. There are several $1/1 printable coupons out there (coupons.com I think) but I also found a $3/1 for pizza w/breadsticks. You can find the Q here.

I paid $5 for this and was completely satisfied. It looks like I'll need to find some room in the freezer...

I believe the sale ends Sunday, but I've not been to Target to even confirm the price on this...

5/11 trip to Marsh, Brownsburg

While organizing my Qs I found that I had several that were expiring today. I also noticed that had some $.40/1 Betty Crocker Suddenly Salad Qs. Marsh has these on sale for $1/ea, and with double coupons they are nearly free.

LT helped me organize my coupons, and went with me to the grocery store, thus the blueberry bagels...

Transaction 1:
1 Blueberry Bagels, 3.99
1 box Wheatables, 3.79 on sale for $1.99
2 Betty Crocker Suddenly Salad, 2.69 on sale for $1.00 ($2.00)
1 bottle Lawry's teriyaki sauce, 3.35
10 Bush's Grillin beans, 1.84 (18.40)
4 ears of corn, $0.25 ea (1.00)

Coupons
1 $1.50/1 Wheatables
2 $0.40/1 Suddenly Salad (doubled)
5 $1/2 Bush's Grillin beans
1 $0.50/1 Lawry marinade (doubled)

OOP: $21.63
Saved: $14.28

I believe Marsh only doubles the first 2 identical Qs, so we split the order.

Transaction 2:
1 Betty Crocker Suddenly Salad, 2.69 on sale for $1.00

Qs:
1 $0.40/1 Suddenly Salad (doubled)

OOP: $0.20
Saved: $2.49

Trip:
Paid: 21.83
Saved: $16.77 or 43%

Not an excellent trip, but respectable, and we used some coupons that would have otherwise expired for items we will use soon.

5/11/10 trip to PetCo, Speedway

I received an email from PetCo offering me one of several free items. LT and I stopped in on our way to Home Depot and picked up a package of Kaytee Yo Dips, regularly priced at $3.99, for absolutely free. Since it was a store discount, we didn't even pay tax! We also got a survey thing at the end of our receipt. Completing the survey will activate a $2 off any $5 item. Bonus!

We went to Home Depot looking for roses for the front yard (I'd received a coupon for buy one, get one free). They didn't have quite what she was after, but at least the trip wasn't a complete waste...

New Coupons on coupons.com

If you haven't read through my how to guides, I really recommend going through MyPoints to get these coupons. Whether you do or not, coupons.com has released new coupons recently, including $2/1 Milk Bone Essentials again.

Last month these went on sale at Petsmart for $1.99 per bag and we were able to get 3 free bags. My power chewer dog really loves these, and they last a while for their size. They are normally priced around $6/3 pack, so free is a nice change of pace... Let's hope they do it again!

It's not for a lack of deals. Meijer still has a great sale going and Walgreen's has a number of cheap/frees available, but I've been organizing coupons all day.

All my loose Qs are sorted and half are trimmed to fit in the 9-pocket pages I have. I haven't even touched the ones still in the weekly circulars. Not sure if I'm going to or not.

Ideally I'll have them all in one place where I can inventory them and make trading MUCH easier. We'll see...

The harder you try, the worse you fail

I just read an interesting article about over-spending while you're in the store. Basically, the more closely you try to estimate your spending, the more you'll over-spend.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with taking a calculator with you to the store, but if you're caught without one, estimate by rounding to the nearest whole dollar.

The article I was reading is summed up nicely at http://www.mindlesseating.org/tryingharder/

5/9/10 trip to PetCo, Speedway

I've had a few Qs burning a hole in my pocket for a while now. 2 $5/1 Science Diet plus a sale at PetCo for $1 off with your PetCo Pals card (reg $15.49 ea) and a PetCo Pals coupon for a free honey stick. I couldn't find exactly which honey stick was included in the offer, so I ended up with two 3.5# bags of Science Diet cat food for $21.01 OOP. Not the best deal in the world, but we've found we need to be brand loyal when it comes to packaged pet foods.

Inbox Dollars

I just added a link to Inbox Dollars if anyone is inclined to sign up. I've been a member for years and have received a number of payments from them. They pay just for reading emails, completing surveys and, most notably, for referring people to their service.

You get a $5 sign on bonus. I get a bonus of 10% of whatever you earn. :D

5/9 trip to Wal-Mart, Brownsburg

Continuing my quest to get organized, I stopped off at Wal-Mart for the 9 pocket sleeves to go in my shiny new binder. These are a little hidden in the "Pokemon" aisle between the express lanes. 35 pages for $5.77, no coupons, but I need these. Desperately.

$6.17 OOP

5/9 Walgreens trip, Brownsburg

On my way to Wal-Mart I stopped in Walgreen's to make some money.

I picked up a Schick Hydro razor for 7.99, paid with a $5/1 Q from today's paper.

With tax, 3.55 OOP and a $5 RR coupon for next trip...

Second transaction:
1 Five Star zipper binder with multi-access file, $15.99

Paid with the $5 RR from transaction 1 and my total came to 12.11 incl tax.

$15.66 OOP for a $16 binder and a $9 razor. The binder alone would have been $17.11.

The best part is, I don't want the razor. I use an older safety razor that takes $0.10 blades, and/or a 'cut throat' straight razor, which never needs blades. If I can't find a home for the razor in a month or so I'll donate it to charity.

5/9 Dollar General trip, Brownsburg

I have an ever growing mound of coupons and I need to get them organized. I ran to Dollar General to look for 9 pocket sleeves, the kind one would use for baseball cards. I didn't see any, but I did pick up 2 packages of Pedigree Dentastix for the dogs. DG has them for $2 and I had 2 $2/1 coupons. I paid $0.28 in tax.

Nothing but the best for my coprophagous little monsters.

It's not always about free stuff

Yesterday while running an errand I passed a church yard sale. There was a small child dressed as a chicken waving a 50% off sign. I decided to stop in on my way back. On my way home I noticed the chicken was waving a different sign that said "FREE". I asked why everything was free and the response was that the sale was wrapping up and no one was buying, so everything was going to Goodwill at 4pm. I also learned that the youth of the church were raising funds for a trip to New Orleans. I picked out a Hot Wheels stunt track (I'm still a kid at heart, honestly), and two fairly sturdy upholstered chairs and made a small donation to the church. It was well under the asking price for the items I'd selected, but well over what they expected.

I'll take car loads of free stuff from mega corporations, but I can't say no to a kid in a chicken suit.

Walgreen's Freebies 5/9-5/15

Ladies,
Get a free 7oz bottle of EOS shaving cream.

EOS Lavender/Jasmine Moisturizing Shaving Cream
EOS Pomegranate/Raspberry Moisturizing Shaving Cream

Both are $2.99 ea and get a $3.00 Register Rewards (RR) coupon for your next purchase.

Gents,
Walgreen's is offering a $5 RR for purchasing either the Schick Hydro 3 or 5 Blade Razor Systems. Both sell for $7.99 each. Now to make some money...

There will be a coupon in tomorrow's paper for $5/1 Schick razors. So combine the coupon with the RR and come out $2 ahead!

It feels amazing when a store pays you to shop!

Remember, 1 Q will print per transaction, even if you buy multiple eligible items, so do several transactions if you want to stock up.

Coupon friendly stores will let you do a few transactions at a time if there's no line. Avon - yes; Brownsburg - not during the day.

DON'T pay for your second transaction with the RR coupon from a previous transaction for the same item (this is called rolling the coupon, and Wag's doesn't support it most of the time).

I'll be updating my How/Where to Shop page tomorrow sometime with details on squeezing the most out of your Walgreen's trip.

This page has been updated. Click the link How/Where to Shop or here to see it.

A big thanks to MFH over at We Use Coupons for giving us a sneak peek at tomorrow's circular.

Kraft sampler, rebates ending soon

Kraft is sponsoring a sampler program. They send you a sampler package of their products, and a rebate form, and presumably some nice coupons? The rebate is $10 back when you buy $30 worth of Kraft products between 5/23-6/13/10, so keep your receipts.

You can begin jumping through their hoops to claim this deal here. But do it soon. the offer expires Monday.

5/7/10 trip to Michael's in Avon. IN

LT and I ran to Michael's for crafting supplies. Hobby Lobby is closer and has a better selection, but Michael's has a 40% off 1 item coupon out that expires tomorrow. You can find it here.

1 box of beads and two rolls of craft paper (brown and white).

We each did a transaction to maximize savings.

We spent $7.30, and saved $2.80. Very economical given that we will have 2 Mother's day gifts for under $10.00.

I'll be spending the weekend gluing macaronis to craft paper. LT is making jewelery.

5/7/10 trip to Marsh in Brownsburg for water softener salt

Last month I printed my max on Morton System Saver II water softener salt coupons from coupons.com (2/computer, we have 3 computers). They were offering $1/2 for the 40 pound bags.

Wal-mart regularly carries these for 4.78/bag, which is FAR better than Marsh's 5.99/bag and Lowe's 5.35 for a different brand. (If Lowe's carries Morton, please let me know. I'm not planning a return trip until something else around the house breaks.)

Last month I also purchased 4 bags of the salt because we are out, but our new softener only hold 2 bags, so I had a stockpile of 2 bags.

Marsh has Morton's salt on sale this week (Th-W) for 3.99/bag, which is a stock up price if you ask me.

Transaction 1:
8 40# Morton Pellet salt, 3.99 ea (31.92)

Coupons:
4 $1/2 Morton System Saver II salt from coupons.com (no longer available)

Tax: $2.23
Total: $30.15
Total Saved: $20.00

The receipt clocks my savings at 42% which I think is very generous as it's based on the regular price and tax, 51.27.

If I adjust my own numbers to compare to Wal-Mart's regular price, $40.92 incl tax, I get a savings of 26%.

Still respectable for a product that we must have and is rarely on sale. Since we've taken steps to curb our water usage, 2 bags last should last 3-4 months for us. We have a full tank, and now 10 bags stockpiled. I won't have to buy salt for a year, maybe 2.

Coupon Sources

The biggest source of coupons is the Indianapolis Star. Recently RedPlum, the publisher of one of the two weekly coupon circulars, pulled out of the Indy Star, but it's still well worth it to subscribe. The best price I've seen is at http://www.subscription-offers.com/newspapers/indianapolis-star/ where you get a 6 month intro rate of $6.50/month for Thursday and Sunday delivery. After that I believe the current rate is $9.35/month.

As I said, Redplum pulled out of the Sunday paper and is direct mailing their circular. So far I've gotten mine without asking for it on Wednesdays, but you can ask to be put on their mailing list to help ensure you get it. The place to do so is here: http://www.valassis.com/1024/Contact/MailingListAddition.aspx. I'm not sure what their official policy is, but I signed up for myself, LT, the cat, both dogs and one of the parakeets... I'll let you know how many I get in 6-8 weeks.

MyPoints is a "get points for reading emails" type of organization. I've been a member since 1998 and have received a number of gift cards for reading emails and taking part in offers that interest me. Right now MyPoints has teamed up with 2 coupon publishers to offer members their coupons. For every coupon I print through them and redeem, I get 10 points. Redeem 10 coupons in a month and get a bonus 25 points. I'm working on getting a referral link on here so you can click and join (and I get a bonus of 10% of your earned points). Until then, shoot me an email, coupon.rat@gmail.com, and I can send you a referral email.

If you don't want to hassle with MyPoints, you can just go direct to the coupon publishers:
SmartSource.com
Coupons.com
RedPlum.com

Printing coupons online generally requires you to install a small coupon printer app on your computer. Once you're up and running you can generally print 2 copies of each coupon per computer. And don't bother printing coupons you might use. Go for the ones you will definitely use. Huge paper saver. Coupons are generally available on those sites for the entire month, though it doesn't hurt to check back occasionally. Sometimes new coupons are added during the month. And some of the really good coupons have a limited number of prints, so they get pulled after it's been printed X number of times. Always check at the beginning of the month for the uber-Qs.

More Coupons - P&G

I just signed up for the Proctor & Gamble coupon book. 6-8 weeks for delivery, but supposedly chock full of high value coupons. You can sign up for it here.

Notice the difference in price paid? The transactions were identical except for the $1 printed Meijer coupon and one $.40 pizza roll coupon, which is worth $.80 because of doubling. I was also charged an extra $.07 for tax on the second order. So I paid an extra $1.87 on the second order.

Transaction 3:
2 pk Charmin 30 ct big rolls 13.99 ea (27.98)

Coupons:
2 $5 ONYO from the pizza rolls in transactions 1 and 2

Trip:
Retail: 105.89
Paid: 44.33
Saved: 61.56
Percent Savings: 58.1%

Notes:
The coupons.com coupons specifically say to not double, but if the UPC on the Q starts with a 5 and it's $.50 or less, Meijer doubles it. Every time.

The Green Giant Qs doubled, so the veggies were free this time around.

The Gushers deal was a good example of store coupons vs. Manufacturer coupons. Most stores that offer store coupons will honor 1 store and 1 manu per item. I used 2 $.50/2 manufacturer coupons (both doubled) and one $1/3 store coupon, so I paid $2 for 8 boxes of fruit snacks.

Stores that double usually only double the first 2 identical coupons. That's why the transactions are broken out the way they are.

I was expecting two $4 Custom Coupons from the Betty Crocker fruit snacks. I've sent an email to Meijer for clarification about this deal.

Catalinas (the coupons that print after you pay) usually will only print once for each transaction. As it stands I paid $17.60 total for pizza rolls and received $10 in catalinas. Had I purchased them all at once, my 3rd coupon would not have doubled so I'd pay $18 and receive one $5 cat. $7.60 vs. $13? I'd rather pay $7.60, thank you.

Toilet paper is a huge expense for most families. Normally priced, I've seen it from $.23 to $.50 per roll (counting double rolls as 2). Between the sale (30 ct big rolls are normally 17.59 ea) and the catalinas, I paid $.17/roll. This is why I stocked up a bit.

5/5/10 trip to Target in Avon

I started today with 3 $5 Target gift certificates. I did some searching to find some freebies while I was at Target redeeming them. Here's what I ended up with:

Transaction 1:
2 Venus Breeze razors (for LT), 4.99 ea (9.98 total)
Retail: 9.98
Qs:
2 $2/1 coupons for Venus razors from the 5/2 P&G insert
1 coupon for a $5 Target gift card WYB 2 Venus razors from the 5/2 RedPlum (which was mailed the previous Wednesday)

Subtotal: 5.98
Tax: 0.35
Total: 6.33

I used one of my gift cards and spent 1.33 out of pocket and received a replacement $5 GC.

Transaction 2:
1 Windex Multi-purpose grease cutter, 2.69
2 Tide single load samples, .99 ea (1.98)
1 pk underwear, 6.04
1 pk socks, 6.04
1 bottle Dynasty Oyster Sauce 2.39
1 gal 2% milk, 2.09
6 sticks Right Guard travel size, .99 ea (5.94)
Retail: 24.78

2 $1/1 any Tide, 5/2 P&G
3 $2/2 any Right Guard, coupons.com
1 $1/1 Windex Multi-Purpose, 4/11 SmartSource

Subtotal: 18.17
Tax(on 22.69): 1.59
Total: 19.76

Used my 3 $5GCs and paid $4.76 OOP.

Trip:
Retail: 39.09
Paid: 6.09
Saved: 33.00
Percent Savings: 84.4%

Notes:
The Windex completes my requirement for the SC Johnson Wax rebate (buy any 3 SCJ products and receive $5 in rebates, limit 3/HH. The form is Here(PDF)). I can claim 2 more times and have already purchased 5 Scrubbing Bubbles products earlier in the week.

The Venus razors for LT only come with one blade, but blades for her current razor are more than $1/ea. I got her 2 for $1.33.

The cashier gave me the overage on the coupons. Normally they adjust the value of the coupon, so I earned an extra 8 cents...

Which was more than wiped out by the milk. The shelf stated milk was $1.99/gal. I paid 2.09.

The cashier was extremely rude about my use of coupons. I called to complain to her manager when I got home. I've never done that before. A shopping trip like this shouldn't ruin your day AND make you want to never go back to the store.

Finally, oyster sauce is the secret ingredient to the brown sauce in Chinese restaurants. It's also fabulous on fried rice.

1 cp stock, (chicken, beef, vegetable)
1-2 Tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp soy sauce

Mix and reduce over medium heat, yields 1/3 cp brown sauce
