Kroger has a frozen food sale, mega-event style. Unfortunately, nothing looks particularly cheap or impressive.

Pepsi 2L, $0.84 ea wyb 6

Meijer has a somewhat impressive list of sales and some decent cats.

Marsh has fallen off the radar again. They did so well last week...

Cheap Bologna (no Baloney)

I just got the 5/22 RedPlum in the mail today and found a $1/2 Bar S Bologna or Franks coupon. Marsh has these as part of their BOGO sale that ENDS TONIGHT.

Bar-S Franks/Bologna $1.98
-$1/2 5/22 RP

If you don't take advantage of this deal today, Marsh will be selling Bar-S Franks for $1.29 ea starting tomorrow, making them $0.79 ea wyb 2

Quick Kroger trip 5/16/11

Kroger has a lovely habit of mailing out some really nice coupons, based on what you purchase from them. I took advantage today because, well, we were out of milk and Kroger has the best price this week.

4, Kroger peanut butter 28 oz, $2
4, candy bars, $0.50
1 loaf bread, $0.98
5# bag potatoes, $2.99
1 dz large eggs
2 half gallons milk, $1.25
1# Kroger butter, $3.59

Coupons:
2, $0.50/2 candy bars, 5/1 SS
FREE eggs, Kroger mailer
FREE butter, Kroger mailer

Tendered: $15.61
Saved: $12.72

Notes: The candy bar coupons should have doubled. I'm not sure if it's part of the crack-down on couponing that's been going around the grocery stores, or that those coupons were scanned before my Kroger card.

Milk in gallon jugs was $2.58. That's how cheap I am.

This Week's best deals (check Marsh!)

I strongly suggest you check the forums at We Use Coupons (link to the right) for Kroger and Meijer matchups if you're planning a trip to either location..

Marsh appears to have the best deals this week, mostly because Laundry detergent doesn't go bad...

Meijer
Bone-in ribs, $1.58/lb
corn on the cob, $0.25/ear
Meijer toilet paper or paper towels (6 rolls), $4.99
Need to know the square footage of the tp...
They are also running a 10 for $10, get the 11th free sale. Everything included appears to be Meijer brand, which means no coupons, which makes the sale somewhat meh.

Marsh:
Tide 50 oz, $5.99
-$0.35/1 Tide Any, 5/1 PG
=$5.29 ea if you are brand loyal

All 50 oz, $2.99
-$1/1 All, 4/10 RP
=$1.99 ea

Snuggle 32 oz or 80 ct sheets, 2.99
-$0.75/1 4/10 RP
= $2.24 ea

Pork chops, $1.68/lb

Philly Cooking Creme, $2
-$1.50/1 3/6 SS
=$0.50 ea

BOGO sale. Nothing looks amazing. If you go, make sure you take 2 of each coupon...

Crystal Light, BOGO
-B2G1, 4/3 SS
= either 3 for the price of 1 or 5 for the price of 2... good luck.

New York Frozen Garlic bread, BOGO (no price listed, guessing $3 ea)
-$0.40/1,  3/6 SS
= $0.70 ea wyb 2, IF 2 coupons will be accepted

Kroger:
Mega-event continues. I continue to be unimpressed.

-$1/1 Ronzoni Garden Delight (IIS), 5/15 SS
= $0.51 money maker

Pepsi 2L, $0.84 ea wyb 6

I've heard that Pepsi cans, 24 ct, are $4.99 ea, limit 2, but it isn't advertised.
Pepsi sent out coupons in a little 2 page insert on 5/1
-$2/2, 5/1 Pepsico Moments
=$3.99 ea if Indy stores are participating

Today's RedPlum

I just got today's RedPlum insert and found a coupon for $0.55/1 Aunt Millie's hot dog/hamburger buns. These are still $1.11 ea at Meijer, but that sale ends today. Clip it before you go, if you're headed that way...

Meijer trip yesterday

I was in the neighborhood yesterday and stopped into Meijer for a few things:

frozen broccoli, $1.99
frozen tortellini, $3.99
3 Aunt Millie hot dog buns, $1.11 ea
2 Toll House Cookie dough, $2 ea
4 Grands biscuits (the big 8 ct cans), $1.25 ea
3 Bush's Baked Beans, $1.25 ea

Qs:
2 $0.30/2 Grands
2 $0.75/1 Toll House
3 $0.55/1 Aunt Millie's

Tendered: $17.71
Saved: $9.77 or 36%

Notes:
I really shouldn't have bought the broccoli and tortellini. It was for a recipe I wanted to try and I was not impressed. Without those items I'd have been around 45%, and would have an extra  $6 in my pocket.

$0.56 is a really good price for hot dog buns. I have tons of hot dogs in the freezer from when they were free at Meijer about 6 months ago. Time to fire up the grill...

About a month ago Jimmy D's roll sausage was on sale at Meijer for something like $1.50-$2/roll. The Grands will make an excellent vehicle for sausage gravy; It's quick to make and the oven doesn't have to heat the house for hours.

Meijer unadvertised deals

I just caught wind of a few unadvertised deals at Meijer. I'm a big fan of Meijer just for deals like this.

Aquafresh Extreme Clean (travel) $1
-$1/1 Aquafresh printable
=FREE

10 lb Tidy Cat non-clumping cat litter $1.99 (I like to keep some on hand for garage spills)
-$1.10/1 Printable
or -$1/1 05/01 SS
= $0.89 or $0.99 ea

3 pack Ivory bar soap $1.19
-$1/1, 05/01 PG
=$0.19, less than 7 cents per bar!

The litter and soap are regular prices, so there probaly isn't a reason to rush out for those items. I'd assume the toothpaste deal ends Wednesday with the regular sales cycle.

Grocery deals for this week.

I said I'd have a Kroger Mega sale matchup posted for this week. I lied.
There just isn't anything worthwhile in this week's sale, IMO.

Kroger has Pepsi 2Ls on sale for $0.84 wyb 6 again, which is a nice price. I've heard rumors of a $0.55/1 Diet Pepsi Q in the 3/6 SS insert. I checked through my 3 copies of that insert and found nothing. Anyone else?

Marsh has corn on the cob for $0.25/ea and chicken leg quarters for $0.88/lb.

Meijer
Toll house cookie dough 16 oz, $2
-$1/1, 4/10 SS
= $1 ea

Aunt Millie's hamburger/hot dog buns, $1.11
-$0.55/1, 4/17 RP
=$0.56 ea

A few deals, but not worth burning the gas to go get them. You might check out the forums at We Use Coupons if you need your frugal fix (link to the right...)

There were a ton of coupons Sunday; so I'd expect mediocre sales for a couple of weeks, maybe longer. In about a month everything that had coupons this week will be on sale. That'll be the time to strike!

Year end totals

I keep track of my spending and savings in a spreadsheet. I just finished entering my receipts for April and have found, in the past year:

I've spent $4,048.84 in groceries, kitchen gadgets, cleaning and pet supplies
I've saved $2,675.21, just shy of 40%

My best month was either:
May; I spent $487.79 and saved $578.61 (55%) - or -
June; I spent $43.70. On everything. For the entire month.

My pantry, refrigerator, and chest freezer are almost completely full (nearly empty when I started).
I already have Thanksgiving's turkey (and one to spare) and Christmas's ham.
I won't need to buy laundry detergent or toilet paper until after Halloween.

I'm rather proud of my little stockpile...

Marsh, Kroger, Meijer deals; today through Wednesday

A friend pointed out that I was being quite negligent on posting deals. I haven't been shopping much, just produce and immediate needs items. I've been working through my stockpile so food doesn't go bad.. I did hit up my 'big 3' grocery stores for a few sales items. These deals are good until Wednesday. The new sales cycle starts Thursday.

Marsh:
Western style ribs, $1.88/lb

Van Camp's Baked Beans, $0.44 ea

Pepsi 2Ls, 4/$4 (must buy 4, Kroger has a better deal)

Betty Crocker Brownies, BOGO - price unknown
-$0.50/1, 5/1 SS
I'd see these for $1 all the time before grocery prices went up. This might be worthwhile if you have 2 coupons...

Meijer:

Hunt's Ketchup 24oz, $0.99
No Qs, but still a stock up price for me.

Red Gold Tomatoes, $0.99
-$0.50/2 Here:
-$1/4 Here:
= $0.49 wyb 2
= $0.74 wyb 4

Cole's Mini Garlic Bread, $0.99
- $0.50/1 Here:
= $.01 MM! It's not much, but it's still wonderful when you're paid to shop...

Totino's Pizza Rolls 15 ct. $0.99
-$0.40/2, 4/17 SS, and Here:
=$0.59 wyb 2

Totino's Pizza Rolls 40 ct. $2.50
-$0.40/2, 4/17 SS, and Here:
=$2.10 wyb 2

Country Crock 15 oz, $1.25
-$1, May All You
-$0.40/1, 4/17 RP (some regions got $0.50/1)
=$0.25 or $0.45

Dentyne Pure, Trident, Stride, or Five gum singles, $0.99
-$1/2, Stride 4/3 SS
-BOGO Tident 3/6 SS
= about $0.48 ea

Kroger:
Vidalia onions, $0.58/lb (I cut one thick and slapped it on the grill with some pork chops Saturday. There were no leftovers)

Pepsi 2Ls, $0.84 ea wyb 6

Haribo Gummi Bears, $1
- $0.30/1 coupons.com
=$0.40 ea

Kroger is also reportedly having another Mega-sale ($5 off 10 items) starting Thursday. I'll try to get a coupon matchup posted before then...
