Getting lots of coupons, on the cheap.

When I start talking about couponing, the first question I get is, where do you get your coupons? Well one good source is All You magazine They have lots of high value coupons. It's geared towards women and mothers, but until Bikinis Quarterly starts including coupons, I doubt I'll find my perfect magazine.

Amazon.com is currently promoting their magazine store to the tune of $10 in Amazon.com credit wyb $30 in magazines. A 2 year subscription to All You currently costs $34. The $10 credit knocks it down to $1/issue... and they usually publish anywhere from $20-$150 in coupons per issue.

There are some rules and restrictions to the credit. I suggest you look them over here. A direct link to the magazine can be found here.

It might also be worth your while to take a look at the deals going on at Amazon.com. Apparently no one told them that Black Friday starts on Friday. You can see their current specials here.

Black Friday ads

We're under a week away from some of the best sales of the year. Hopefully you've been watching for great deals. If you haven't, take a look at BFAds.net. They have ad scans and summaries for the weekend sales of most of the major retailers.

Many retailers are pushing sales all November, so it might be worth your while to look at the ads this weekend as well.

a few Black Friday items I'm going to try for:

Wal-Mart: Oster electric griddle. $9.97
Big Lots: Jazz 5 MP camorder, $18.88
Lowes: 13 amp table saw. $59

Many retailers are allowing sale prices on their websites starting at midnight, so it's worth checking, unless you enjoy waiting in line all Thanksgiving day...

Turkey deals and a random tirade.

Thanksgiving is coming and for most of us that means turkey. So far I've found 2 good deals for turkey.

Kroger has Jennie-O turkeys for $0.57/lb until the end of the day Wednesday. Limit 2.
Wal-Mart has them for $0.58/lb. Not sure how long it will last, but I didn't see any limits in the store.
Wal-Mart also has Honeysuckle turkeys for $0.88/lb, which I found tempting, but in the end, not worth the extra $6 for a sugar-injected bird.

At any rate, I'm doing my best to make room in our freezers. This is a great price on any bone-in meat and I want to stock up while I can. Turkey is not just for Thanksgiving around here...

I also picked up trash bags while I was out, and I'm now on a mission to stock up on these at the lowest possible price. There's no reason for a bit of extruded plastic to cost so much. Last week I bought boxes upon boxes of Stove Top for $0.25 each. The same price as ONE trash bag. grrrr.

Don't even get me started on toilet paper either.

Pet supplies

A couple good pet supply deals I'm taking advantage of today:

The first is a deal made in heaven for The Coupon Rat's mascot, Risotto. Speck's Pet supply has big bags (60L) of CareFresh bedding for $13.99. This is about $10 off the normal price if I recall. The next best price I've seen is at PetCo.com, for about $15/bag but you need to buy 3 bags to get free shipping. Either way, Speck's has a good deal to stock up on. Bedding won't go bad as long as it is kept cool and dry. If you are still using cedar or pine chips, please switch to a better bedding. Your little fuzzbutt will appreciate it.

The second deal that caught my eye was Bil-Jac dog food at PetCo. Normally $45 for a 30 pound bag; PetCo is advertising $7 off. I'm about to head to PetCo and see if it's worth picking up a couple bags (or if they even carry it at my store).

awesome for the week

It looks like Kroger will be continuing last week's sale. Zero points for originality.

One notable difference, Jenni-O turkeys will be $0.57/lb this week. I knew this would happen as soon as I filled my chest freezer back up.

Tide at Kroger ends 11/3/10

I know it's been forever since I've posted, but there all that many spectacular deals lately. One worth mentioning, however, is Tide at Kroger. The 32 load bottles are normally $7.99. With your plus card they are $5.99. Buy 2 and get an additional $2 off at the register. Check the P&G insert from 10/31 for $1/1 any Tide and bring the price down to $3.99 each, a little better than 50% off! The last day of the sale is Wednesday, so don't dawdle.

While you're there, Kroger has half gallons of milk for $0.88/ea and medium eggs for $0.50/doz. Medium eggs can be used as large eggs for the most part. If your recipe calls for a lot of eggs, here's a handy conversion: 4 jumbo eggs = 5 large eggs = 6 medium eggs = 7 small eggs = 1 cup (250 mL) yolks and whites.

Labor Day sales!

Lots of Labor Day sales going on out there. Be sure to check flyers pretty thoroughly. I almost missed the Lowe's deal!

I would have gotten more, but I'm so well stocked from previous sales that I'm not certain I'll use what I have...

Here's what I got today.

Meijer:
Picked up 3 Charmin 30 pack double rolls at $14.99 ea. P&G has a $10 mail in rebate form that prints out wyb $40 worth of select products.
TP is tough to find cheap, so I jumped on this even though I've got a decent stockpile already. By my calculation I got 180 regular rolls for $34.97, which puts the price at $0.194/regular roll. Best price I usually find is $0.25/roll for the really cheap stuff.
I also picked up a couple of 12 drawer small parts organizers (for random screws, nuts, etc). They were originally marked 12.99, on clearance for 7.79, and rang up at $3.24.

Lowe's:
5 cans of Wasp & Hornet spray at $1.00 ea. Regular price on these is $2.47 and 5 cans will probably last us 2-3 years. I mostly live and let live, but my gf has a mild phobia about stinging insects so it's good to have around the house.

Wal-Mart:
I stopped in at Wal-Mart to check their price on Q-tips. Ended up getting a few health&beauty supplies (shampoo, antacids, and Q-tips), and found the PERFECT Christmas present for a dear friend of mine. The item was marked $9, rang up as $7 and came in her favorite color (green).

Marsh:
Corn on the cob, 4 ears @ $0.20 ea. We're coming up on the end of the corn season, so I'd like to partake before prices start going up again, or the corn is just gone entirely...
2 pk, Aunt Millie's Hot Dog Buns, $0.99 ea. I still have quite a few packages of brats, hot dogs, and smoked sausage from sales earlier in the year. We'll have some this week and I tossed the other package into the freezer for later.

At the end of my trips, I spent $90.84 and saved approx $50.

Saraga International Market

I hit up Saraga International market for the first time last week. I picked up a few things

A big, juicy watermelon ($2.99)
a 25 lb bag of Jasmine Basmati rice ($19.99, an indulgence, but I like basmati)
a can of black beans, ($0.99)
a 5 pound bottle jug of oyster sauce ($5.99)

I had been buying oyster sauce at Marsh or Target for $2.50 to $3 for a 10 oz bottle, so that was a really excellent find. Also, while most of the produce at this store looks questionable at best, the watermelons were definitely fresh, and half the price of a regular grocery store. They were also bigger sweeter and juicier than I've had in a VERY long time.

I was also very tempted to get a huge 50 gallon stock pot, but decided it wouldn't fit in my car, or house... :D

Kroger trip 8/12/10

Kroger is having another Mega-Sale. $4 off 8 items this time...

I just picked up
6 packages Bumblebee tuna, $0.99 ea (5.94) - Mega
2 bottles Sunny D, $1.28 ea (2.56) - Mega
4 cans Pedigree dog food, $1.38 ea (5.52)
2 dozen eggs $0.88 ea (1.76)
1 gal Milk, $2.00

Pre-Sale this comes to $30.53
After sale price:  $17.78

I had the following discounts
$4 for the Mega-Sale
6 $0.55/1 BB Tuna coupons (3.30 off, from a blinkie machine I found a few months ago)
1 $0.25/1 SunnyD coupon - Doubled (8/1/10 SS)
2 BOGO Pedigree dog food (2.76 off, Kroger catalinas)
2 $2.50 Kroger Catalinas from a previous trip

Grand Total: $2.49!

Notes:
I think this is my best trip ever, percent wise.

I got home and found that Lori had picked up milk somewhat recently. I really could have gotten away with paying $0.49 for all of that. BAH!

The tuna was $0.49 ea after the Mega-sale discount. My $0.55 /1 coupons means they paid me 6 cents for each one I took. Overages are rare but BB tuna has a history of giving overages, that's why I snagged a bunch of Qs when I found the blinkie machine.

Millions of peaches

Here are some highlights from this week's sales.

Marsh:
Pepsi 2L, $0.86 ea wyb 6
Thu-Sat only
5 lb boxes of peaches for $2.99 - I just took up canning so I'm going to give it a try with peaches.
corn on the cob, $0.25 per ear.

Kroger:
Grapes, $0.88/lb
7Up 2L, $0.75 ea wyb 4
the P&G $4 off 4 sale is continuing. Worth noting, but generics tend to be quite a bit cheaper.
Th-Sun only
GM and Quaker cereals are 50% off
Kroger brand peanut butter 18oz, $1 - just as good as any other brand.

Meijer:

Pepsi 24 packs, $3.99
Doritos, FREE wyb 2 Pepsi 24 packs!

Fri-Sat only:
7Up 16.9oz bottle 6 packs, buy 2 get 3 free
Keebler Filled Crackers (peanut butter cheese crackers pictured)$1.25 ea.

Suave shampoo/cond $0.88
Q-Tips, BOGO
All laundry detergent 50oz, $3

Lots and lots of back to school sales over the weekend so check your ads if you have little ones. I personally will probably only make it to Marsh for the produce and maybe the Pepsi. I'm incredibly well stocked on everything else except meat but don't really see any sales I want to take advantage of.

Unexpected DIY project

I haven't done much shopping lately so I haven't had much to post about. I did have an eventful evening though. It was about 88 degrees here today with a very high humidity. Around dinner time I realized that the AC had stopped working. Ugh. Fortunately I had a window AC in to assist my aging central air so there was a little relief from the heat.

Last time I called someone out for the AC it cost about $130 and took 2 days to get anyone here. I don't really have the money to spend on it right now. Also, last time, it turned out the breaker in the condenser unit had popped, so all that really needed to be done was to clean the unit and reset the breaker.

This time around I decided to take matters into my own hands. I disassembled the AC unit, and found it was clogged with dog hair and dirt. I cleaned it pretty thoroughly, and fed about 1000 mosquitos in the process. I put it back together, reset the breaker and the unit started right up again. The whole ordeal took about 2 hours, and I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for fixing it on my own.

A tiny bit of know-how can go a long way towards keeping your hard-earned money in your own pocket!

Deals worth leaving the house for

Kroger (today):
Kroger Peanut Butter 18 oz, $1
Kroger Cheese 8oz, $1.50
Kroger Yogurt 6oz, $0.33

I had a coupon for a free bottle of Suave Professionals, up to $3 (mailed coupon, sign up at their website), and $0.50/2 (7/11 RP) for the same. I bought 4 bottles at $2.17 each. When the cashier rang up the free coupon, the register gave me $3 off! 4 bottles for $4.68...

Another great deal at Kroger is the Soda flavored ice cream topping. I had a coupon for $1/2 (6/13 SS) and bought 2 bottles at $2.99 each. At checkout I received 2 $2.50 catalinas for my next trip. I essentially made $0.02 for buying them.

I also hit the clearance table pretty heavily and got some Uncle Ben's, hot wing sauce, and bagels on the cheap.
Overall, I spent $27.56 and saved $19.74, about 42%

Walmart (today):
I stopped in to pick up dishwasher detergent and some high value spices. I also found that they have canning supplies about 30% cheaper than just about anywhere else I've seen, and I have 20 lbs of tomatoes to deal with. SOON.

Great Value DW detergent 75oz, $2.67
5th Season Onion Powder 3 oz, $0.50
Ball Canning Kit, $10.00
Ball Utinsel Kit, $6.74

I used a coupon for $1/1 Ball canning kits and later found that I had a $2/1 coupon for the same thing in the 6/6 RP. There's also a coupon for jars, which Wal-mart sells for about $8/dozen (Kroger had them for $12/doz)

All tolled, I spent 20.27 and saved $1.

Tomorrow's trips:

Meijer:
Sweet Baby Rays 18oz, $1
Sunny D, $1
Dole Salad, $1
All are included in the 10 for $10, get the 11th free sale. Tons of great items included in this sale, just not much I'm in the market for at the moment. I'll most likely get a few bags of salad, a bottle or two of SunnyD and then stock up on SBR's... It gets used almost like ketchup around here.

Marsh:
Pork Chops, $0.98/lb. 'Nuff said.

Fireworks store craziness is over.

Posting will resume just as soon as I sort out all the coupons I accumulated over the course of the past month...

Saturday, June 12, 2010

I miss couponing. I've been working a lot of hours and where I'm at, I don't have Internet, though I'm taking my laptop today to see if a neighbor will lend me theirs.

Hoping I adjust to the crazy hours soon. On the weekend of the 4th I'll be open up to 18 hours a day. And I'll need to be there for most of it.

FREE Fireworks!!

I'm able to offer you a little inside information. Fireworks stores are popping up all over Indianapolis and all of them are able to offer deals. The standard deal is $20 in free product for every $100 you spend. USA Fireworks aren't able to offer any better than this, but other stores may be able to discount/price match.

Also, don't be taken in by the goofy Buy 1 Get 5 Free deals. Items like this come in packages of 6 for say, $12. The store breaks them out of the packages, and marks them for $12. You feel like you are getting a deal, but you are paying the same as the package costs. I attended management training for one of these stores where they freely admitted it was a marketing gimmick.

I don't work for that particular chain. The one I'm working for now also breaks out 6 packs as in the example above. We then prices the individual items at $1.50-$2.50 ea, determined by demand. You are welcome to purchase individual items or packages and pay for what you take/want.

The other guys also have a 1% additional surcharge hidden in their sales tax and label it as a 'testing fee'. This is pure profit for the corporate office... And since all store operators work purely on commission, it takes away from the operator's earnings.

The store I'm at is on 106th and Michigan road, just behind Walgreen's. Mention this blog and I will be more than happy to cut you a deal.

Hurry though. All price matching, discounting and free product deals end June 30th. And my particular store will be open until July 5th.

6/1/10 trip to Meijer

Ran to Meijer to pick cash in on the last of this week's sale, and spent the catalinas I got in the mail today.

I was also disheartened to see that we in Indy didn't get the $1 Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce coupon. We did get a $1/1 SBR marinade coupon though, and these were on sale for 0.99...

Transaction 1:
3 pk ground beef, 1.49/lb ($9.90)
2 cases Coke, 3.96 (7.92)

No coupons

OOP: 18.37
Savings: 7.04

Transaction 2:
1 jar Bac-Os
1 pk Bagels
3 pk ground beef, 1.49/lb ($9.85)
1 can Meijer beets, 0.69
1 bottle Sweet Baby Ray's Marinade, 0.99
3 bottles SBR BBQ sauce, 0.99 ea (2.97)
1 pk Oreo cookies, 2.50
4 jars Skippy peanut butter
2 cases Coke

Coupons:
2 MMB $1/2 coupons
2 0.75/2 Skippy
$1/1 SBR Marinade
$1 catalina
2 $3 catalinas

OOP: 25.33
Savings 24.72

Overall a 42% savings... Not my favorite way to start a month, but I just don't need much at the moment.

May Totals

In May I had 46 total transactions covering all my grocery and misc purchases (anything I went to the store to get, not utilities, for instance)

I spent $478.79 OOP for $1,057.40 in merchandise giving me a total savings of $578.61 or 54.7%.

I beat last month's percentage of 52.2% and spent about $200 less OOP.

I feel that it's important to reward the hard work and dedication it takes to save so much money. Given that, I'm going to get myself 5 lottery tickets, 1 for every 10% in savings for the month. If I never update this blog again, you'll know I won ;)

Catalina Marketing comes through

Last week I posted about my trip to Meijer to take advantage of the Kraft salad dressing money maker. Two of my cats didn't print, but I called Catalina Marketing that day. Today I received my 2 cats that didn't print, and they have a VERY long expiration date, 7/11/10 (normally you get 2 weeks from purchase date).

Coupons.com reset today

Every month Coupons.com resets their coupon count so really limited coupons are available again. They've done so a little early and the new coupons area available today.

I highly recommend printing coupons.com Qs from InboxDollars to earn an additional $0.10 per coupon redeemed.

Samples received today - P&G and Orville Redenbacher

I always request samples when I see them and two have arrived today.

The P&G Brand Sampler includes a 2 count Cascade ActionPacs sample and a Metamucil Pink Lemonade Sample. I also received a $2/1 Metamucil coupon that expires 6/30/10. You can request your sampler on the P&G Brand Sampler website. Another little nugget of joy; Risotto, the Coupon Rat mascot, is currently camped out in the box that the samples came in...

The other sampler was for Orville Redenbacher's Popcorn. The sampler includes a package of microwavable popcorn and a coupon for $1/2 OR's Gourmet Popping Corn 3-packs. The sample comes compliments of Kroger and you can get yours here. They also have Mayo and Prilosec samples if you're interested.

Meijer has the deals, once again

I've been a little busy lately with finding a full time job, but I did notice two excellent deals at Meijer this week.

Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce 18 oz, 0.99
-$1/2 (5/23 SS)
=0.49 ea wyb 2

Ground beef, 1.49/lb, limit 3 packages

There was a tearpad coupon out recently near the A.1. display for $1 off beef wyb A.1. sauce. Hopefully we'll see an A.1. coupon before the sale is over. Even if we don't, this is the lowest price I've seen on ground beef in a while.

Scrubbing Bubbles madness continues, Part 2

Scrubbing Bubbles just release a new printable $5/1 Q for the power sprayer. If you still have the Free $5 Target gift card coupon, this is still a money maker...

There's also a $1/1 Q for the refills on the same web page. Both can be found on the Right@Home website (link goes to coupon print).

Vacation your Sunday newspaper

In keeping with being a complete tightwad; I'm placing my Sunday paper on vacation so I won't be charged for it. There are no inserts scheduled for this Sunday's paper. Don't be alarmed if you look for them an they aren't there.

Glade Sense & Spray Freebie at Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart recently reduced its price on Glade Sense & Spray starter kits to $5.
Using the $4/1 coupon from the 5/9 SS, you'll pay $1 and $.35 in tax for each.

Since these are eligible for the SC Johnson $5/3 rebate, this ends up being a money maker ($4.05 for 3).

The rebate form can be found on the SC Johnson website.

5/25/10 trip to Meijer

Transaction 1:
4 bottles Kraft salad dressing, 1.89 ea (7.56)
Qs:
4 $1/1 Kraft Salad dressing MMB

OOP: $1.36
Saved: $6.64

I was expecting a $3 catalina, but didn't get one.

Transaction 2:

2 bags Jet-Puffed Marshmallows, 1.45 ea (2.90)
1 6-pack Hershey's chocolate bars, 3.34

6 pk Hillshire Farms brats, 3/$5 (10.00)

3 $0.55/1 Kraft Salad dressing (5/2 SS and coupons.com)
1 $3 catalina from Transaction 2

OOP: $0.46
Saved: $7.54
Catalinas: none again... hrm...

Notes:
The cashier didn't scan one of my $.55/1 coupons in transaction 3.
She also had a massively malfunctioning catalina machine.. all of the lights were blinking and it had about a foot of tae hanging out of it. She didn't seem to mind. I wanted my coupon.

The BOGO coupons in transaction 3 rang up as $10 off, not 8.99 off... win!

I called Catalina Marketing regarding the cats that didn't print in #1 and 3... they're getting back to me tomorrow.

Meijer sales updated - ends 5/26

I know its a bit late, but I just updated my post about the Meijer sale to include catalina deals that are reportedly going on, and a printable coupon source for the Kraft Dressing $0.55/1 coupon. Now that I've printed a bunch of these I think I am headed to Meijer this morning. I'll let you know how I did this afternoon.

You can see the updated post here.

CVS Money Makers, 5/23-29/10

I'e not yet attempted to coupon at CVS, so I'm not exactly sure about this, but There's quite a bit of commotion on weusecoupons.com about CVS this week.

Scenario 1:
4 Gillette Body Wash, $4 ea ($16)

Coupons (in this order):
$3/$15 CVS coupon (source unclear, not not necessary for the MM), -$3
2 BOGO Gillette body wash (5/2 PG), -$8
1 $4/2 Gillette body wash/deodorant (5/2 PG), -$4

The result is $1.00 OOP, and $8 in ECB rewards... Nice!

This could work with the Old Spice BOGOs in the 5/2 PG as well, but would be $5 OOP. I can't find a similar $4/2 coupon for Old Spice.

Scenario 2:
CVS is giving $5 ECBs wyb $15 of Nivea products. With enough Nivea coupons out there to choke a small mule, there has to be a MM...

3 Nivea BW, $5.99 ea (17.97)

Coupons:
$3/$15 CVS coupon (source unclear, not not necessary for the MM), -$3
1 Nivea BOGO (May AllYou magazine)
2 $4/1 Nivea (5/2 SS)

OOP: $0.98 + $5 ECB

You could also tack on another bottle of bodywash if you had another BOGO, and not change your OOP.

That's it for now. Once I start shopping CVS I'm sure I'll bring in better deals and info.

Strangers in the night...

We met in front of the meat case at the Brownsburg Marsh Saturday morning.

You: wearing a salmon top and jeans.
Me: Wearing a green t-shirt and jeans.

I thought you were cute. And I loved the way your eyes lit up when you saw what I had in my pants (I keep my Q organizer in my back pocket while shopping).

I could tell by the way you were grabbing weiners that you had done this before, and you knew EXACTLY what you like. I like to stockpile hot dogs too. I had extra coupons for Bar S Franks, and was about to offer you some. That's when you pulled out your Q organizer. It was exactly like mine, even the colors matched.

My heart skipped a beat.

You pointed out that we had the same organizer. I laughed and mumbled something. I was too nervous to remember what I had said. Perhaps it was all the boxes of wine in the next aisle that made my head swim.

Then, as you strolled away, I began to wonder if you'd seen my Marsh matchup on my blog or WUC. Perhaps it was fate that drew us together there under the cool dim lights of the meat section. Perhaps if I met you again I'd gain the nerve to ask you to Kroger with me... they have eggs on sale. Then I nearly ran into your cart as I passed an aisle you were coming out of.

I looked up and smiled. You smiled. We shared a moment. I lost my nerve to say anything at all to you.

Later, while I was looking for the charcoal, I saw that you'd already checked out and were leaving the store. My charcoal was nowhere to be seen. My heart sank.

You say you are married? That's OK. I'm seeing someone too. She's very open minded about saving money, perhaps the two of you could even become friends. The 3 of us could run interference on a register while we perform multiple transaction. A Ménage à Savings?

Perhaps you were clever enough to match up the coupons to the sale on your own, without my help. Perhaps someone else has a better matchup. I'd still like to shop with you again, my new frugal friend. Until we meet again, save well.

Marsh and Kroger trips this morning

Marsh:
I picked up a few items I wrote about a few days ago.

Saved: 12.77 (62%)

Kroger:
6 Pepsi 2L, 1.25  (7.50)
2 dz Kroger eggs, 0.77 (1.54)

Qs:

Eggs were also on sale...

OOP: 6.89
Saved: 7.56, (53%)

Scrubbing Bubbles madness continues

Over the past month Scrubbing Bubbles has been a consistent and fairly massive money maker. All signs indicate that this is going to continue as SC Johnson released another high value coupon for their products. Not to mention the Mail in Rebate that is still going until the end of the month.

Get a $10/1 Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner starter kit coupon. I've seen these priced around $13.49 at Target and Walmart, so print this hot coupon now before supplies run out. I have a feeling we'll see a price drop or store coupons for these before the expiration date.

5/18/10 trip to Meijer, Avon, IN

1 Transaction, Taking some of my own advice... Check the link for coupon sources.

I was also buying some things for a fondue party I'm going to tonight, so my percentage is a little low...

Party Items:
1 Vegetable oil, 2.49
2 Sweet Baby Ray's Dipping Sauce, 2.99 ea (5.98)
2 Peanut oil, 3.99 ea (7.98)
2 pk Steak (14.49)
Sub: 30.94

Deals:
1 bag Meijer charcoal 18#, 5.29
4 cans Manwich, 0.89 ea (3.56)
2 boxes Wheat Thins, 2.00 ea (4.00)
2 bags Doritos 3.99 ea (in-store BOGO, 3.99 total)
6 bags Freshlike frozen vegetables, 1.00 ea (6.00)
9 jars Musselman's 48 oz applesauce, 3/$5.00 (15.00)
2 Sunkist soda 2L, 1.00 (2.00)
2 Duncan Hines Brownies, 1.67 (3.34)
Sub: 43.18

Coupons:
Meijer Meal Box:
3 $1/3 Musselman's applesauce
3 $1/2 Freshlike vegetables
2 $1/2 Manwich

Manufacturer:
2 $0.55/2 Duncan Hines
2 $1/1 Wheat Thins
2 $1/3 Freshlike
4 $1/2 Musselman's

Tax: $0.51
Total: $57.47
Savings: $37.56 (39.5%)

Notes:
I paid $1 for 6 pounds of frozen vegetables!

I paid $8 for 9 jars of applesauce!

Without the party items my OOP would have been $26.98. My savings would have been the same and my percentage would have been 58.2%

I'm not sure why the register took both Duncan Hines coupons. I mistakenly gave both. I think it has something to do with Meijer registers checking for for 1 coupon/item and then checking for item eligibility. Some people can also take advantage of this loophole by buying two items and using 2 BOGO coupons to get both free. I've not tried this, as it skirts the coupon fraud gray area a little too closely for my taste.

I have a huge food dehydrator. I think most of the applesauce is going in it to make fruit leather (Fruit Roll-ups). Doing so will add about a year to the shelf life of the applesauce, 3 if I freeze them. They can always be turned back into applesauce by simply adding water. Not sure what to do with the jars just yet though.

Response from Walgreen's. That was fast! AND it makes sense.

Manufacturer rules prohibit retailers from using a manufacturer's coupon when it is set up as a buy one, get one free promotion.  Their claim is that the "deal" is already buy 1, get 1 free.  So to honor any other coupon or deal is called double dipping.
This is a situation we used to ignore and considered it good customer service.  But in recent months, we have been reprimanded by the manufacturer's and have been informed that they will no longer accept manufacturer coupons from us if we don't start to follow their rules.  This is why we have to hold firm on their rules and policies.
I hope this makes sense.
Thank you,

Email to Walgreen's customer support

"I went to the Brownsburg, IN store to purchase Old Spice Body Wash. I had a coupon for buy one, get one free. I was told that the coupon would not be honored because "[I'd]... be getting both items for free. The cashier also said that this was company policy.
1. Is this correct? Though I fundamentally disagree with the cashier's statement as I'd pay $4.49 for the body wash and receive a coupon for my next purchase.
2. Can such limitations be placed in the weekly advertisement? The only limitation I see is 1/customer, but this additional information would have saved me a trip to Walgreen's"

I'll let you know what the response is.
